Consolidated net profit fell 44.9% year on year while total income rose 18.2%, so profit moved far more than income. Profit before tax fell 42.8%, to ₹208.52 crore from ₹364.82 crore, and the tax expense fell 36.6%, so the lower tax charge did not offset the drop in pre-tax profit.

Finance costs rose from ₹9.00 crore to ₹14.71 crore, and depreciation rose 7.1%, to ₹160.98 crore. Other income of ₹22.62 crore is 0.5% of total income and 10.8% of profit before tax. The year-ago quarter carried exceptional items of ₹(121.79) crore, according to the notes, but the nature of those items is not stated in the text read.

The lead segment, lead acid batteries and allied products, reported revenue of ₹3,876.25 crore and a segment result of ₹240.02 crore. The new energy business reported revenue of ₹232.46 crore and a segment loss of ₹(41.55) crore. The reason for the sharp fall in consolidated profit before tax is not stated.

The Board also noted capex approval by Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, of ₹2,320 crore to raise pack manufacturing capacity from 4 GWh to 9 GWh and set up an LFP cell manufacturing plant at the Amara Raja Giga Corridor in Telangana. The plants are to be established within 30 months and financed through a mix of equity and debt. The company infused ₹250 crore in the subsidiary during the quarter, taking its total investment to ₹2,100.01 crore.

    Inference

The filing declares an interim dividend of ₹4.30 per equity share of ₹1 face value for FY 2026-27, payable on or before 01 Dec 2026, with a record date of 06 Nov 2026. The company also infused ₹250 crore into its subsidiary ARACT and ₹50 crore into Amara Raja Power Systems Limited during the quarter.

The filing does not state the timing or cash cost of the ₹2,320 crore capex beyond the 30-month window, the split between equity and debt funding, or the reason for the fall in consolidated profit before tax.
