Coal India (NSE: COALINDIA) reported provisional coal production of 67.2 million tonnes and offtake of 70.3 million tonnes for October 2026, up 19.3% and 18.7% on the same month a year earlier, it said in a filing on 01 Nov 2026. For April to October, production was 388.2 million tonnes, up 0.7%, and offtake was 454.6 million tonnes, up 9.2%.

Monthly volumes rose faster than the year before

October's growth rate was well above the April to October average. Production rose 19.3% for the month, against 0.7% for the seven months, and offtake rose 18.7% against 9.2%. Offtake ran ahead of production in both periods, at 70.3 million tonnes for the month and 454.6 million tonnes for the seven months.

Most subsidiaries reported higher output for October. MCL reported 20.8 million tonnes, SECL 14.3 million tonnes and NCL 11.4 million tonnes, the three largest. NEC reported 0.03 million tonnes, against 0.01 million tonnes in October 2025.

Where the year-to-date gain comes from

For April to October, the group's total output is almost flat. Several subsidiaries rose: WCL by 15.9%, CCL by 21.1% and SECL by 7.5%, while NCL fell 14.6% and MCL fell 4.2%. Offtake for the seven months grew 9.2%, led by CCL at 29.6% and WCL at 25.5%.

The filing does not say why output and offtake moved as they did, and it does not link the volumes to revenue or profit. The company's latest reported quarter, Q2 FY27, showed consolidated total income of ₹95,128.00 crore and net profit of ₹15,397.24 crore, but the volume filing does not connect to those figures.

What the volume data means for Coal India's shareholders

The filing reports production and offtake only. It does not change the company's capital, dividends or borrowings. Coal India's share price was ₹389.00 at the 30 Oct 2026 close, giving a market value of ₹2,39,730 crore.

Not stated: the reasons for the changes, the value of these volumes, and when final, non-provisional figures will be published.
