Hathway Cable and Datacom reported consolidated total income of ₹598.59 crore and net profit of ₹10.16 crore for the quarter ended 30 Sep 2026. Standalone total income was ₹172.79 crore and net profit was ₹20.71 crore.

Pay channel cost took the profit. Revenue from operations rose 5.7% to ₹567.51 crore, but pay channel cost, the largest expense, rose 20% to ₹335.91 crore from ₹280.03 crore, and is now 59.2% of revenue against 52.2% (derived). Other operational expenses fell to ₹80.56 crore from ₹88.58 crore and depreciation, amortisation and impairment to ₹73.86 crore from ₹76.39 crore, which offset only a small part. Net profit fell 44.3% to ₹10.16 crore and the margin to 1.70% from 3.29%. The statement does not say why pay channel cost rose.

Other income rose 65.5% to ₹31.08 crore and is twice the quarter's profit before tax of ₹15.14 crore (derived). The group's share of joint ventures and an associate was a loss of ₹0.56 crore against a profit of ₹3.18 crore, and profit before tax and that share was ₹15.70 crore against ₹23.03 crore. Against June revenue was level and profit fell 58.6% from ₹24.56 crore. For H1 FY27 revenue from operations is ₹1,132.61 crore against ₹1,067.17 crore, and net profit ₹34.72 crore against ₹49.28 crore.

The standalone company earns twice the group's profit on less than a third of its revenue. Standalone net profit was ₹20.71 crore against ₹10.16 crore consolidated, with revenue from operations of ₹142.71 crore (down 2.8%) and other income of ₹30.08 crore, so the subsidiaries and joint ventures together lose about ₹10.6 crore (derived). The filing does not break down what the other income contains; the cash flow statement refers to income from dealing in securities treated as operating.

Depreciation was ₹37.57 crore, 8.5% lower, and tax was 25.5% of profit before tax against 25.3%. Standalone earnings per share were ₹0.12 against ₹0.11, and consolidated ₹0.06 against ₹0.10.

Inference

Hathway's profit is lower than both a year ago and the June quarter because programming costs grew about three and a half times as fast as revenue.

The statement does not say what raised pay channel cost, and part of the profit before tax depends on other income that it does not explain.
