Jain Irrigation Systems (NSE: JISLJALEQS) has entered into an agreement to sell biochar carbon removal credits of up to 19,000 tonnes to Supercritical Tech Ltd., it said in a filing on 31 Oct 2026. The credits come from the company's Jalgaon biochar facility for 2026 and 2027.
What the agreement covers
The agreement relates to the company's industrial biochar facility at Jalgaon, Maharashtra, which converts agricultural and food-processing residues into biochar through gasification. Biochar is a carbon-rich material, and carbon removal credits are issued against the durable carbon it stores.
The company says the arrangement lets it create value from these residues while contributing to durable carbon removal and sustainable agricultural practices. The filing is an update to an earlier disclosure dated 28 Oct 2026 on a press release about the same deal.
The counterparty and the project's status
Supercritical is a London-based carbon removal marketplace founded in 2021. It serves over 200 corporate buyers and tracks more than 600 suppliers. As at 31 Dec 2025 it had net assets of approximately GBP 2.1 million and cash balances of approximately GBP 4.4 million.
The project is undergoing verification through Puro.earth, and an independent BeZero Carbon rating is underway. The company does not hold any shareholding in Supercritical, and the parties are not related to its promoters or group companies.
What the Supercritical agreement means for Jain Irrigation Systems' shareholders
The company is a plastic products maker with a market value of ₹2,089 crore at the 30 Oct 2026 close, and its latest quarter, Q1 FY27 on a consolidated basis, reported a net loss of ₹17.80 crore. The agreement adds a carbon credit sale for two years, but the filing does not say what it is worth in rupees, the price per tonne, whether there is a minimum purchase commitment, when deliveries start, or what effect it will have on results.
The filing also does not say whether the Puro.earth verification or the BeZero rating will be completed, or when.
