Profit tripled, and two-fifths of the gain is lower provisions. Net profit was ₹365.05 crore against ₹121.72 crore. Operating profit before provisions rose 50.2% to ₹593.69 crore from ₹395.24 crore, while provisions and contingencies fell 56.2% to ₹102.97 crore from ₹234.96 crore. Of the roughly ₹330 crore rise in profit before tax (derived), about ₹198 crore (60%) is higher operating profit and about ₹132 crore (40%) is lower provisions. Tax took 25.6% of profit before tax against 24.1%.

Asset quality improved as provisions fell. Gross NPAs were 2.10% of gross advances against 2.45% a year ago and 2.16% in June, and net NPAs 0.31% against 0.67%. The capital adequacy ratio was 20.69% against 21.36% a year ago and 20.36% in June, lower than a year ago but well above 20%.

Income grew faster than costs. Total income rose 26.3% to ₹2,448.94 crore, of which interest earned was ₹2,153.36 crore (+28.0%) and other income ₹295.58 crore (+15.3%). Against Q1 FY27 total income rose 7.4% and net profit 15.3%, from ₹316.54 crore. For H1 FY27 net profit is ₹681.59 crore against ₹224.94 crore, and earnings per share for the quarter are ₹1.87 against ₹0.63.

Inference

Ujjivan's profit rise has two sources the filing separates: operating profit up by half, and provisions down by more than half. The second is a one-time lift to the year-on-year growth rate: with NPAs now lower, further falls in provisions would have less room.

The filing gives the ratios but not a breakdown of the provision fall by product or borrower type, so what lies behind the lower credit cost cannot be read from this announcement.
