NMDC (NSE: NMDC) reported higher iron ore production but lower sales for October 2026, it said in a filing on 02 Nov 2026. Production was 5.04 million tonnes against 4.27 million tonnes a year earlier, and sales were 3.44 million tonnes against 3.89 million tonnes. The figures are provisional.

Production ran ahead of sales in October

In October 2026 NMDC produced 5.04 million tonnes of iron ore and sold 3.44 million tonnes, so output exceeded sales by about 1.60 million tonnes in the month. A year earlier the gap was smaller, with production of 4.27 million tonnes and sales of 3.89 million tonnes.

The filing does not say why sales fell or whether the difference went into stock. Those are the points a reader would most want to know.

    Chhattisgarh and Karnataka

Chhattisgarh produced 3.36 million tonnes in October 2026 and sold 1.90 million tonnes, a ratio of about 1.8 to one. Karnataka produced 1.68 million tonnes and sold 1.54 million tonnes, which is close to a one-to-one ratio.

Cumulatively to October, Chhattisgarh produced 22.28 million tonnes and sold 18.32 million tonnes, while Karnataka produced 10.04 million tonnes and sold 7.35 million tonnes.

    The year so far

Cumulative production to October 2026 was 32.32 million tonnes, up from 26.47 million tonnes a year earlier. Cumulative sales were 25.67 million tonnes against 26.12 million tonnes, a small decline. NMDC is a mining company with a market value of ₹59,204 crore at the 30 Oct 2026 close, and its latest reported quarter, Q1 FY27, showed consolidated total income of ₹7,142.54 crore, up 1.5% year on year.

What the production update means for NMDC's shareholders

The update reports volumes only. It shows more iron ore mined and slightly fewer tonnes sold so far this year, but the filing gives no price realisation, so the revenue effect is not known. The filing does not say why sales lagged output, and the final figures have not yet been reported; the company says the figures are provisional and are also on its website.
