Vedanta (NSE: VEDL) responded to exchange queries on a news report about Odisha cancelling 28.8 acres allotted to it, saying the matter is not material. It said in a filing on 03 Nov 2026 that the land is less than 1% of the Jharsuguda aluminium land holding.

What the company says about the land

The land parcels are non-contiguous and form part of the aluminium undertaking transferred to Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (VAML) under the demerger. The company says that pending completion of the formalities for transfer or endorsement of the underlying lease deeds in favour of VAML, the leasehold rights continue to stand in the name of Vedanta Limited.

The company also says there have been exchanges of correspondence between IDCO and the company over alleged non-utilisation of the land, and that it has responded from time to time. It says appropriate steps are being taken on resumption or re-allotment of the land.

Why the company calls it not material

The company gives two reasons: the limited extent of the land, which it puts at less than 1% of the aluminium land holding at Jharsuguda, and its view that the matter has no impact on operations. On that basis it says the matter is not considered material.

The news report, as the company cites it, headlined the cancellation of 28.8 acres. The company does not restate that figure in its response.

What the land matter means for Vedanta's shareholders

The company's position is that the matter does not affect operations and is not material. The filing does not say when the lease deed transfer to VAML will be completed, what the outcome of the IDCO correspondence will be, or whether the cancellation would affect any payments. Those points are not known from the filing.

The filing sets no dated next step; resumption or re-allotment remains open.
