Arbitration tribunal rejects Allied Silica’s ₹908 crore claim against Tata Chemicals, but orders ₹1 crore plus interest and costs

Tata Chemicals Limited has told the exchanges that a three-member tribunal of the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration (MCIA) passed a final award dated 15 Oct 2026 in the arbitration brought by Allied Silica Limited and its promoter Mr. Manmohan Singh Jain. The tribunal unanimously rejected their ₹908 crore claim against the company.
The award is not entirely in the company’s favour. The majority of the tribunal directed Tata Chemicals to pay ₹1 crore as principal, along with interest and certain costs, to Allied Silica. The dissenting member rejected the direction to pay that principal amount, interest and costs.
The company had first told the exchanges about the claim by letter dated 11 Dec 2024. It says it is examining the final award and will decide its future course of action. The disclosure was filed on 16 Oct 2026 under Regulations 30 and 51 of the SEBI listing rules.
Inference
The claim of ₹908 crore was the amount sought by the other side, and the tribunal rejected it. The amount the company has been directed to pay is ₹1 crore of principal, plus interest and costs that the filing does not quantify.
The company has not yet said whether it will challenge the part of the award that goes against it. The filing does not state any expected effect on the company’s financial results.
