Bharti Airtel Limited has told the exchanges that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Madhya Pradesh licence service area, has issued a notice imposing a penalty of ₹1,50,000 for an alleged violation of subscriber verification norms. The company received the notice on 13 Oct 2026 at 6:26 PM IST and made the disclosure on 14 Oct 2026 under Regulation 30 of the SEBI listing rules.
The filing explains that the licence agreement requires the company to verify customers properly before enrolling them as subscribers, and that DoT carries out periodic Customer Application Form audits to check this. DoT’s audit for July 2026 led to the allegation of a violation of the verification terms of the licence.
The company says the maximum financial impact is the amount of the penalty. It has chosen not to contest the notice and to pay the penalty.
Inference
The penalty is small, at ₹1.5 lakh, and the company says there is no further financial effect beyond it. By choosing not to contest, it will pay the amount and the matter will not go to a further process.
The filing does not say how many customer applications were found to be deficient in the audit. It also does not state whether the notice affects any other part of the company’s licence.
